The Microsoft November security Patch featured just three bulletins with fixes for a total of 11 documented vulnerabilities. This month sees Redmond rate one of the bulletins as "critical" - which is the highest severit rating.

Two of the bulletins address security holes in Microsoft Office along with an "important" bulletin for the Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway product. I don't think we at ID Theft Protect have ever seen a "critical" update for Microsoft Office. Have you?

Make sure you have Windows Automatic Updates set to 'ON'.

  • Click 'Start'
  • Click 'Settings'
  • Click 'Control Panel'
  • Click 'Security Center'
  • Finally click on 'Windows Automatic Updates' and set to 'ON'.

Alternatively, if you want to update right now:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Go to the Tools menu and select "Windows Update'

The patch can also be downloaded directly from:  http://www.microsoft.com/security/updates/bulletins/201011.aspx

Simple: Check for Microsoft security updates here

End-of life reminder
Interestingly, Microsoft also announced some end-of-life dates of Windows XP, so customers will soon have to start updating these operating systems, which include Windows XP Service Pack 2, as they were no longer supported after July 13, 2010. Customers are being encouraged to upgrade to Service Pack 3 or to Windows 7 as soon as possible.

TIP: If you do NOT have a Windows Genuine Version we suggest you be aware that Microsoft is now including a notification tool (Windows Genuine Advantage - WGA) in all it's security updates. Click here to find out more.
